CLEP AND ADVANCED PLACEMENT CREDIT
LSN accepts College Level Examination for Proficiency (CLEP) or Advanced Placement (AP) scores for the required university non-nursing courses with the exception of Anatomy and Physiology I & II. If a student achieves the passing score recommended by the American Council on Education, CLEP exam scores are accepted.
TRANSFER CREDIT FOR NURSING COURSES
If an applicant was previously enrolled in any nursing program and would like consideration for transfer credit, the applicant must:
- Complete all admission requirements.
- Submit a written request for LSN to evaluate the transcript for possible transfer credit.
- Submit all course descriptions, syllabi, calendars, and outlines for the courses under consideration for transfer credit.
Transfer credit will only be considered if a “C”
TRANSFER CREDIT FOR NON-NURSING COURSES
Students with transfer credit from an accredited institution for a specific non-nursing course are not required to enroll in that course when it is offered at LSN. Transfer credit for courses will only be considered if a “C” or better was earned in the course. Transfer credit must be awarded prior to start of the course in the LSN curriculum. Students currently enrolled in nursing courses at LSN are required to take non-nursing courses at the time offered in the curriculum if transfer credit was not awarded prior to course enrollment. If an enrolled LSN student wishes to take a non-nursing course at another institution, before the time it is offered in the LSN curriculum, the student must submit a written request and receive written permission from the Lutheran School of Nursing Administration.
EXTENSION, CORRESPONDENCE AND TELECOURSE WORK
Extension, correspondence and telecourse work is accepted as transfer credit provided the accredited university records the credit on an official transcript.
RESIDENCY POLICY
To receive a diploma from Lutheran School of Nursing, transfer students must complete at least two Level II Nursing courses and the Role Transition course in academic residence.
APPLICATION FOR LICENSURE AND THE MISSOURI NURSING PRACTICE ACT
The graduate is eligible to apply to take the examination for licensure as a registered nurse upon successful completion of the nursing program. However, completion of the program does not guarantee eligibility to write the licensure exam. The Missouri Nursing Practice Act, section 335.066 includes additional criteria for eligibility to apply for licensure to practice nursing upon completion of a nursing program. See Page 18 for Missouri Nursing Practice Act Sec. 335.066.
PROGRAM LENGTH
The nursing program, including all nursing and non-nursing course work is 28 months. The Registered Nurse Track is a 22-month, full-time day program. The LPN to RN Bridge Track is approximately 15 months. Students typically have a one week break after each 8-week rotation, two weeks for the winter holidays and six weeks during the summer. The calendar often requires adjustment, which can affect the length of the winter or summer break. Program length reflects the nursing academic weeks and break weeks, and does not reflect any pre-nursing course enrollment.
TUITION
The tuition charge for each course is determined by multiplying a base charge by the number of semester credit hours awarded for the course. The tuition is the same for both the university non-nursing courses and the LSN nursing courses. Current tuition and fee schedule can be found in the pocket of this Bulletin. Tuition and fees are subject to change. Tuition is due seven days prior to the first day of the term or a $50.00 late fee will be applied. Financial Aid is available and based on individual need.
RESIDENTIAL STUDENT COSTS
On-campus housing is available for enrolled students. All assignments in the Nurse’s Residence Hall are for private rooms. Housing charges are paid seven days prior to the first day of classes beginning each regular academic semester (fall, spring, summer) as part of the tuition and fees due for that semester. ADDITIONAL COSTS OF ATTENDANCE
The cost of attendance also includes textbooks, uniforms/related supplies and expenses of living (food, clothing, personal items, transportation). Current information is provided separately after acceptance to the program. All costs are subject to change.
